Homemade Dog Biscuits
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 tablespoon chicken or beef bouillon granules
3/4 cup powdered milk
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup butter
1 1/2 cups hot water
3/4 cup cornmeal
3 cups whole wheat or plain flour
*optional* 1/3 cup nutritional yeast
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
In a large bowl, pour hot water over oatmeal, bouillon granules and butter, allow to stand for 5 minutes.
Mix in beaten egg, powdered milk, and cornmeal.
Add flour a little at a time. Stir thoroughly and add more flour if needed to make dough stiff.
Roll dough into a 1/2 inch thickness to cut into shapes and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
Bake for 45 minutes. Turn off oven and crack door but leave bisquits in to slowly cool and dry out.
I used a heart-shaped and a bone-shaped cookie cutter, both about 2-3 inches tall/long. If you don't have any cookie cutters handy, just use a juice glass to cut out round circles. 45 minutes was fine for larger, thicker cookies, but is too long for smaller cookies - reduce cooking time to 35 minutes instead.
